SOC Media, Cloning & Expression

SOC is a special medium for incubating cells after transformation. It allows the expression of transferred resistance genes before cells are exposed to selective conditions. SOC media is essential after bacterial transformation and can assist with the recovery of transformed cells and provide seamless coning results. SOC transformation is essential in DNA preparation, transformation, and heat shock applications. SOC recovery medium can also promote cell recovery and enhance transformation efficiency. Once optimized, the composition of the SOC medium can maximize the amount of successfully transformed cells and create seamless cloning results. Cloning and expression kits provide great advantages in various laboratory applications, including time and cost efficiency, ensuring reliable and reputable results.

cell and culture dishes are also available at Thomas Scientific.

What does SOC media stand for?

SOC media stands for Super Optimal broth with Catabolite repression. It is a nutrient-rich bacterial growth medium used to enhance the recovery of E. coli cells after transformation with plasmid DNA. SOC media contains high concentrations of nutrients, including peptones, yeast extract, glucose, and magnesium salts. They provide an optimal environment for bacterial cells to express the newly introduced DNA and recover more efficiently. This process is useful in molecular biology applications where high transformation efficiency is critical, such as in cloning experiments.
