Chaotropic Agents

Chaotropic reagents are essential for use within the lab to aid in the denaturation of proteins by weakening the hydrophobic effect. The single-step technique separates RNA from DNA after extraction with an acidic solution. Chaotropic agents disrupt the structure and stability of biological molecules, including protein and nucleic acid. Protein modification reagents include urea, which is ideal for breaking hydrogen bone and disrupting the native structure of biomolecules. It also includes guanidine hydrochloride, which is perfect for disrupting interactions holding proteins together. Formamide is an agent used in molecular biology to denature nucleic acids and can make them more accessible for analysis. Chaotropic agents are precious for the study and manipulation of biomolecules. This is particularly useful in protein purification, nucleic acid extraction, and DNA sequencing, where the goal is to isolate or manipulate specific biomolecules.

  • Guanidine Hydrochloride

A selection of strong chemicals to aid in the denaturation of proteins. Denaturants, or chaotropes, disrupt water interactions resulting in the solubilization of hydrophobic proteins and peptides. The chaotropes also act on all proteins to unfold them and alter their three-dimensional structure....
