Synonyms: Anatabine; (RS)-Anatabine; (+/-)-Anatabine; 1,2,3,6-Tetrahydro-2,3'-bipyridine; 1,2,3,6-Tetrahydro-2,3'-dipyridine
Molecular Formula: C10H12N2
Molecular Weight: 160.22
Linear Structural Formula: C10H12N2
Storage: 2-8C
Biochem Physiol Actions: Anatabine is a blood-brain barrier penetrant minor alkaloid, a cholinergic agonist, isolated from Solanaceae plant family that exhibits anti-inflammatory properties. Apparently, anti-inflammatory properties of anatabine are partially mediated by inhibition of STAT3 and p65 NFkB phosphorylation. Anatabine decreases the transcription and protein synthesis of beta-secretase (BACE-1), and appears to ameliorate experimental autoimmune thyroiditis and encephalomyelitis.
