Magnesium is an essential co-factor in many enzymes, including deoxyribonuclease (DNase), the restriction enzymes EcoR I and EcoR V, and Ribonuclease H.Magnesium also stabilizes polymeric nucleic acids such as transfer RNA and ribozymes.
