Letheen Broth, Modified (Modified Letheen Broth) is recommended for screening cosmetic products for microbial contamination. It is prepared as per FDA for screening cosmetic products for microbial contamination. The word Letheen represents a combination of lecithin and polysorbate (tween) 80. This methodology was adopted in 1965 by AOAC followed by FDA in 1978 including the same as a pre-enrichment step.
- Appearance: Cream to yellow homogeneous free flowing powder
- Color and Clarity of prepared medium: Yellow colored, clear solution in tubes
- Reaction of 4.28% w/v aqueous solution at 25°C. pH : 7.0±0.2
- Cultural characteristics observed after an incubation at 35-37°C for 24-48 hours
