LB Top Agar, Dry Media (Miller formulation) is used for adding a thin layer of media to agar plates to spread bacterial cells or phage. It can be used in preparing phage stocks and performing phage titration with E. coli. LB Miller media is nutritionally rich, which allows for rapid growth of E. coli.
The concentration of agar in LB Top Agar is half (0.75%) that of traditional LB Agar (1.5%), making it easy for phage to spread to neighboring bacterial cells.
Powdered agar provides an economical, convenient option that requires less storage space and has a longer shelf life than agar plates.
Contains 1.0% (10 g/L) tryptone, 0.5% (5 g/L) yeast extract, 1.0% (10 g/L) sodium chloride, and 0.75% agar.
