Alzheimer′s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative brain disorder and does not have a proper cure yet. The formation and accumulation of amyloid-ß (Aß) plaques in the brain is thought to be a critical pathological hallmark for early diagnosis of AD. Current gold standard probes for histological staining of amyloid fibrils, such as thioflavin derivatives, have several drawbacks.
