Fyn is a non-receptor type tyrosine kinase also called as tau kinase, which belongs to the Src family. It has two isoforms, FynB and FynT, expressed in brain and T-lymphocytes, respectively. The Fyn protein consist of Src homology domain 2 (SH2) and Src homology domain 3 (SH3) at its amino terminal ends.

Biochem Physiol Actions: FynT, an isoform of tyrosine-protein kinase Fyn, regulates neurofibrillary degeneration and reactive astrogliosis in Alzheimer's disease (AD). The tyrosine kinase Fyn plays a vital role in acute transplant rejection, by phosphorylating tyrosine residues on key targets that take part in early T-cell signal transduction, which is a crucial process for acute transplant rejection. p59fyn (T) controls OKT3 promoted calcium ion transport in Jurkat T cells . Fyn facilitates the phosphorylation of Vav, a guanine nucleotide exchange factor for Rho-like small GTPases, and plays a crucial role in TCR-mediated actin polymerization. The Fyn protein associates with large myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) and plays a major role in myelinogenesis.
