Biochem Physiol Actions: Complement factor B (CFB) is a central protease of the complement system, located in the class III region of major histocompatibility complex. It is involved with the activation of the alternative complement pathway and in protection against infection by encapsulated organisms. Cleavage of complement Factor B by Factor D and C3b produces non-catalytic chain Ba and catalytic Bb. Upon B cell activation, Bb participates in proliferation and differentiation.
