Biochem Physiol Actions: C1QC (complement component 1, q subcomponent, C chain) gene encodes the C-chain polypeptide, a major component of the human complement subcomponent C1q. C1q associates with C1r and C1s proenzymes to form the first component of the serum complement system, C1, which functions in the host defense against pathogens. C1q consists of 18 polypeptide chains comprising six A-chains, six B-chains, and six C-chains. Each of these chains contains a collagen-like region at the N-terminus and a globular region at the C-terminus. These chains are localized to chromosome1 and are present as A-C-B. Deficiency of C1q is linked to lupus erythematosus and glomerulonephritis.
